NACHIKETA TAL l is situated at a distance of 131 km from Gangotri and 29 km from Uttarkashi. According to a local legend, this lake was created by Uddalaka and named after his son Nachiketa. 10-year-old Nachiketa established the back gate to hell and life and death. It is a small temple dedicated to the serpent deity, which is visited by the villagers during Nagpanchami. During Nagpanchami the villagers take a holy dip in this lake and engage in spiritual ecstasy. One can also see the panoramic view of the Bandarpoon peak in the west of the lake. The beauty of Nachiketa Tal and the surrounding greenery fascinates the tourists. Different types of stories are famous about this rhythm. It is said that the gods and goddesses come to bathe in this pool even today. The sounds of conch shells and bells are also heard from near the pool at night.
